When it comes to industrial products, photography has to do more than simply document an item—it needs to communicate durability, functionality, and trust. That was the focus behind this recent product photography shoot with Betaweld in Perth.
The project involved photographing a range of welding and industrial safety products including welding helmets, welding blankets, welding gloves, and various cable sockets. The goal was to create a consistent visual library that Betaweld could use across their website and their parent website of Alphaweld, catalogues, social media, and marketing material while reinforcing the professional quality of their products.

Hardest product to capture was the welding jacket. The welding jackets are hard material and they create a lot of lines which do not look good on camera and thus a lot of effort went into making it look presentable on camera.
Betweld are my previous clients and they came back to me after 6 years again to take on this project. Industrial products present a unique challenge in commercial photography. Unlike lifestyle products, these items are built around performance and reliability, so the imagery needs to feel clean, precise, and technical without becoming sterile.
For this shoot, the approach focused on:
Clean studio lighting to highlight product detail
Strong contrast and texture to emphasise materials
Consistent framing across the entire product range
Multiple angles for eCommerce and catalogue use
Every product was photographed with attention to detail, from the matte finishes of welding helmets to the rugged texture of industrial gloves and heavy-duty welding blankets.
Betweld Welding gloves were a unique challenge to shoot as they needed to appear as if they were being worn by someone:
One of the key objectives was making the products feel functional and trustworthy rather than simply “displayed.” Industrial buyers often pay attention to construction quality, materials, fittings, and usability, so close-up detail shots became an important part of the shoot.
The cable sockets, for example, required sharp macro-style imagery to clearly showcase the connectors, build quality, and finishing. Meanwhile, the welding helmets and gloves benefited from more dramatic lighting setups that enhanced shape and texture without overcomplicating the composition.
This balance between technical clarity and visual appeal is what makes commercial product photography valuable for industrial brands.

Welding blankets were a completely different challenge as they were massive in size. I had to completely alter my lighting setup and move everything to shoot around these blankets:
